Which Type of Online CE Course Is Right for You? Live Zoom Trainings vs. On-Demand Courses

Updated: Apr 4, 2023

Are you feeling uncertain about which type of online continuing education course to take? At Maryland CEU Institute, we offer two different types of online courses: Live Zoom continuing education workshops and On-Demand trainings. Below we'll break down the major similarities and differences between these two course types, and highlight some of the key benefits of each. By the end of this post, you'll have a much better idea of which course type is the right fit for your learning needs and preferences. So let's get started!

Live Zoom Continuing Education Workshops

Our Live Zoom workshops are live, real-time, and interactive – they are not pre-recorded. They take place on a specified date and time and require attendance and participation to earn continuing education credits. Attendees who are registered for a Live Zoom Webinar will receive the Zoom codes and additional instructions for accessing the training 2-3 days prior to the Workshop. Training handouts are sent one day prior to the training.

The live Zoom workshops offer a number of benefits to mental health professionals seeking continuing education. First and foremost, they provide an opportunity to learn in real-time from experienced instructors who can answer questions and provide feedback on the spot. This can be particularly valuable for professionals who are seeking to improve their skills or knowledge in a specific area and need general guidance from an expert.

In addition, live Zoom workshops provide a more engaging and interactive learning experience than pre-recorded On-Demand trainings. Participants can interact with the instructor and other attendees, ask questions, and collaborate on group activities. This can help to reinforce the learning and make the experience more enjoyable and memorable.

Finally, live Zoom workshops provide the opportunity to earn live, interactive CE credits which count as Category I Credits for Maryland Social Workers (to learn more about the credits we offer and credit acceptance please visit our CE Credit page).

If you want to learn more about exactly what to expect when you attend a live Zoom workshop with us, please visit our What to Expect at a Live Zoom Training blog post.

On-Demand Trainings

In addition to live Zoom workshops, Maryland CEU Institute also offers On-Demand continuing education trainings. These are self-paced courses that allow professionals to learn on their own schedule and at their own pace. Once registered for a Self-Paced/On-Demand course, you will have immediate access to the online training. After you register for the training, you will visit our Online Learning Academy located at https://courses.marylandceu.com/. When you register, you will create a login for the Online Learning Academy - remember this login information as you will need it to access your On-Demand course.

The On-Demand courses are video-based and provide a similar level of content as the live Zoom workshops. Although they are pre-recorded and do not offer the same level of interactivity or feedback as the live workshops, many participants enjoy the On-Demand courses because they can rewatch lessons and have course access for 1 year.

One of the biggest benefits of On-Demand trainings is their flexibility. You can complete the training on your own schedule, and from anywhere you have an internet connection. This can be particularly valuable for those who have busy schedules or cannot attend a live workshop due to geographic or scheduling constraints.

In order to receive CE Credits, participants are required to watch the videos in order, complete quizzes after each lesson, and receive a passing score of 80% on each quiz in order to move onto the next chapter and ultimately complete the training.

The On-Demand courses offer Pre-Recorded online CE Credits which count for Category II credits for Maryland Social Workers. Check with your licensing board to determine your CE requirements, how this type of credit is categorized, and if there is a certain number of pre-recorded credits allowed each renewal period. To learn more about the CE Credits we offer, please visit our CE Credit page.

In summary, Maryland CEU Institute offers both Live Zoom continuing education workshops and On-Demand trainings to provide professionals with flexible options for their continuing education needs.
