Unraveling Anxiety: Concrete Interventions for Treating Anxiety and Related Disorders
3.0 CREDIT HOURS
Course Overview:
How do we help our clients move from worried to well? Anxiety disorders are the most common mental health condition in the United States in both adults and children. This workshop will present learners with a review of diagnostic formulation of assessment and key domains of anxiety assessment. Specific anxiety-based screening and assessment measures will be shared as resources. Treatment approaches based in evidenced-based research will be included. After reviewing anxiety assessment, focus will shift to treatment approaches. The vicious cycle of anxiety will be reviewed, and strategies such as mindfulness and cognitive restructuring will be examined. Core CBT targets and interventions will demonstrate the power of cognitive therapy to alleviate anxiety symptoms and distress. Additional concrete strategies such as distress tolerance, urge surfing, and self-compassion will provide clinicians with eclectic and empirically-validated treatment approaches to move your clients from worried to well.
