Understanding & Treating Obsessive Compulsive Disorders
Online Live Webinar: Real-Time, Interactive Training
Workshop Information
Would you like to learn how to effectively help clients with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder? Are you interested in gaining a deeper understanding of OCD?
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder is a mental illness that consists of intrusive unwanted thoughts and behavioral rituals that are time consuming and severely impact quality of life. Millions of people around the world are affected by Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that about “1 in 40 adults and 1in 100 children” struggle with this debilitating condition. Fortunately, there are effective treatments to relieve even the worst cases of OCD. However, these effective treatment outcomes strongly depend on the clinician having adequate training.
During this seminar, Dr. Bell will review the diagnostic criteria and will discuss various clinical presentations of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. With this foundation, attendees will then learn to approach OCD from a cognitive behavioral perspective – from assessment to intervention. As OCD can have a wide range of manifestations, it is also important for clinicians to properly assess for the underlying themes so that an effective treatment plan can be developed. Successful treatment relies on effective interventions and creative clinicians. Dr. Bell will teach participants how to recognize these themes and how to use them to inform their treatment plan.
Evidenced based Interventions and treatments for clients with OCD involving cognitive behavioral strategies and Exposure and Response Prevention (E/RP) will be discussed and practiced using case examples. This presentation will also address the importance and rationale of hierarchy development and how to determine an individual’s subjective units of distress scale (SUDS) as part of E/RP.
Participants will leave this seminar with a deeper understanding of OCD and concrete tools for assessing and treating this debilitating condition.
